Scandi Meadow coming soon

It’s been a busy few months with the Coronation CAL, but I am delighted to have a new project on my hook again. It’s a design that I have had in my mind for a long time and have been working on in the background since the beginning of the year.

Meet Scandi Meadow.

The design is inspired by Scandinavian Folk Art, but I think it also has a fun, 70s vibe too. It’s a fairly simple make, with no complicated stitch patterns so perfectly suited to beginners. There was quite a bit of maths involved to get all the elements to fit together. But the good news is that I have done all that for you so very minimal counting required!

The leaves and flowers are all crocheted as part of the squares, so no appliqué or sewing involved. Once all the squares are made they are crocheted together. I like to work this way in the summer as it means you can work on the individual squares when the weather is warm and not be sitting under a growing blanket. The finished size will be around 100cm x 125cm, but as it’s made in squares it will be easy to make bigger or smaller of you want to.

If you would like to make one, here is some more information about the Scandi Meadow pattern.

When will the pattern be released?

The pattern will be available in my web shop and on Etsy and Ravelry on 22nd June. It’s not a CAL so you can work entirely at your own pace.

Is it a CAL?

It’s not a formal CAL, but I know that lots of you enjoy the support and camaraderie of a CAL, so I will be hosting a casual make along in my Facebook group. Each week, for six weeks, starting on 22nd June, I will suggest a section of the pattern as the focus for the week and we can all work on that part together.

Come and join my friendly Facebook group so you don’t miss any of the fun. It’s really lovely to chat and see all of your makes!

What do I need?

I am using New Fashion Dk to make my Scandi Meadow blanket. It’s fabulously soft and squishy and had just the shades I wanted to use to make the flowers really pop. I originally envisaged the flowers having a navy blue background, but I was finding it very difficult to crochet with the dark yarn, so I’ve opted for a slightly lighter blue. It still gives the same effect, but is a much more gentle colour and easier on the eyes. There will also be a version with a white background.

You can use any brand and colours of yarn you like to make this blanket. If you are raiding your stash you will need around half a ball each of the flowers and leaves colours and 3 balls of your chosen background colour.

I have used:

New Fashion DK 100g balls

3 x Airforce OR 3 x White

1 each Clematis, Candy Twist, Baby Pink, Peach, Lemon, Mojito, Mint, Cloud Blue.

You will also need a 4mm hook, yarn needle and scissors.

If you would like to buy a yarn pack, Snufflebean Yarn has them in her shop. She has both the Blue and white background options. Click the button below to go straight to them.

Will you be making your own Scandi Meadow? I would love you to join me! I will post more pictures on my Facebook page, instagram and in my Facebook group soon.
