The Crochet Studio app is here!
If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I have been developing a new crochet app with my son Matt. We have had a fantastic group of people beta testing it for the last few weeks, and I am delighted to say…..drumroll……that it is finally live in the app stores!! I’ve been thinking about the concept for many years and to have it brought to life by Matt is a dream come true. He has added some amazing tech that I never would have dreamed of in a million years. Here is a quick overview of what it can do.
Palette Creator
The core feature of the app is the yarn palette maker tool. Imagine having thousands of yarn pegs in your pocket! It allows you to choose from real yarn images and arrange them into palettes. This is really useful if you are unfamiliar with the yarn colours and want to see how they will work together. It’s not always easy to choose yarns from a sea of swatches on a website. Being able to see your colour choices together will help to eliminate yarn doubt when buying online.
Collage Maker
Once you have made your palette you can share it or make it into a collage. The app will do all the hard work for you so you can make and share your collage with just a few taps. Use it to pair yarns with an image that inspires you or with a picture of one of your makes to remind you what colours you used. This is a really handy way to share your yarn choices on social media. Toggle the yarn colour and brand names on so everyone can see what yarns you used without having to list them!
AI Yarn Suggestions
If you need some help choosing colours, you can use the AI tool. Add an image from your camera roll and the app will suggest yarn colours to match it. The suggestions can be filtered down to only your preferred yarns. Think of it as a starting point. You can add more yarns or remove any that you don’t like, making the palette completely your own.
Colour Inspiration
We’ve also made a library of hundreds of premade palettes from your favourite brands. Select one, copy it to your palettes and then edit or use as you choose. We are adding to these constantly, so there will always be something new to inspire you.
Pattern Generator
The revolutionary pattern file generator allows you to design your perfect blanket with simple drag and drop yarn placement or a super smart randomiser that helps to make beautiful striped blankets. Once you’ve designed your blanket, generate a full written pattern as a PDF. It even calculates the amount of yarn you need to complete the project!
We are currently working on updates to this tool to include ripples, chevrons and multiple stripe patterns including mixed stitches. A granny square generator with a library of square patterns will follow.
Toolbox
Alongside the pattern generator, the toolbox contains a row counter and a starting chain calculator. Absolutely no maths required!
Discover
Discover is our dynamic crochet magazine. It’s a carefully curated list of palettes, patterns, and interviews with crafters from around the world. We have some absolutely fantastic content lined up for the next few months, but if you would like to be featured or suggest someone you would like to see, email anita@darylandjames.co.uk.
Crochet Studio is free to download and use. No signup is required. We’ve worked hard to make it as simple and intuitive to use as possible, so don’t worry if you are not a regular app user. It’s really fun to play with too! Here are some of the comments posted on Instagram by our testers.
