Emma’s Hearts - In Aran!

Do you buy yarn just because you like the look of it, with no particular pattern in mind? That’s exactly what I did with this wonderful Sirdar Jewelspun Aran. I don’t often buy Aran yarn, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to make something with it. I chose Daybreak Delta because it is just my type of colours. They look quite bright on the ball, but work together beautifully to create quite a subtle effect. It comes in several other colour ways too. I used Hayfield bonus Aran with wool in Croft Grey. If you look closely the grey has a slight ombre effect. This was entirely a happy accident as I used two balls with different batch numbers. I really love the effect of the gently shifting colours against the neutral background. It couldn’t look more different from the original version of the blanket (LINK)

If you fancy making one, this is what I used:

1 x Sirdar Jewelspun Aran in Daybreak Delta (200g ball)

2 x Hayfield Bonus with Wool Aran in Croft Grey (400g balls)

The Jewelspun is exactly the right amount to make this. I was getting a bit nervous towards the end of the second band of hearts, but finished it with 3 or 4 metres to spare. I have enough of the Croft Grey left to make it a bit bigger, so I might go back and add a few more granny rounds and maybe a deep lacy border. In the picture above it’s sitting on my Kingsize bed so is a good size as it is. It measures xx x xx cm.

The colour changes throughout the yarn mean every heart is different.

As you work around the blanket, it’s really fun to see the colour changes creating interesting effects. If you’re not a fan of sewing in ends, then this is a great way to enjoy lots of colours with minimal effort.
